Police close O.C. roadway to investigate head-on Tesla crash

Laguna Beach Police closed Laguna Canyon Road for four hours Tuesday and returned to the scene of a previous fatal head-on auto collision between a Tesla and Honda Accord.

Two men who were driving to work April 2 were killed there. Police said a Tesla outbound from Laguna Beach veered into oncoming traffic and hit a Honda Accord head on just before 7 a.m. that day.

Alberto Casique-Salinas, 46, of Anaheim and Armando Garcia-Gonzales, 38, of Santa Ana, who were in the Accord, died at the scene, according to police.

The driver of the Tesla told dispatchers a “white Mercedes cut him off, causing him to head into oncoming traffic,” as first reported by the Laguna Beach Independent.

Because of the ongoing investigation, police are not releasing the names or cities of residence for the drivers of the Tesla and Mercedes, Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an email.

The driver of the Tesla sustained minor injuries, police said.

The Laguna Beach Police Employees Assn. has set up a fund on behalf of the victims’ families. Checks should be made out to the Alberto and Armando Memorial and sent to: LBPEA, P.O. Box 4611, Laguna Beach, CA 92652.
