Crews search for missing hikers in Cleveland National Forest

Searchers were combing part of Cleveland National Forest in Orange County on Monday for two hikers who became lost Easter Sunday.
A man called authorities about 8:30 p.m. Sunday saying he had gotten lost during his hike in Holy Jim Canyon, Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Erin Giudice said. But the man’s cellphone lost power before his location was pinpointed.
Authorities believe a woman was with the man, Giudice said.
Search efforts were launched Sunday but the lost hikers could not be found, Giudice said. Air and ground crews were out again Monday, assisted by a California Highway Patrol helicopter and bloodhounds.
As a “huge cloud cover” began to burn off late Monday morning, Giudice said officials were “very hopeful” there would be additional opportunities for air resources.
