A suspicious package that forced the evacuation of a West Hollywood hotel turned out to be a bag of clothes, authorities said Monday.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad determined by 11 p.m. Sunday that the package spotted at the Grafton on Sunset hotel was not a threat and cleared the scene, said Sgt. Bryan Aguilera.
The Sheriff’s Department received a call about the package at 7:12 p.m. Sunday, and the arson-explosives unit was dispatched, Lt. William Nash said.
The package found in the lobby or near the hotel entrance “caught management’s attention,” he said. “It looked out of place.”
The hotel is located on Sunset Boulevard, just east of La Cienega Boulevard.
Northbound La Cienega Boulevard was closed at Fountain Avenue, and Sunset was closed from La Cienega west to Sunset Plaza.
Nash said hotel management decided to evacuate its approximately 50 guests.
