Detectives probe mysterious Victorville shooting death

Several witnesses said they didn’t hear gunfire or see a shooter immediately after a convenience store clerk in Victorville was shot to death outside of his work Sunday night, authorities said.

Officials confirmed that Daniel Olivera, 26, of Hesperia, was fatally shot in the upper torso Sunday after getting off work at about 11 p.m.

Olivera was chatting with a security guard outside the front doors of the AM/PM store at a gas station in the 15700 block of Roy Rogers Drive when he was killed, said San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Cindy Bachman.

“He was standing outside of the store when he fell to the ground,” she said.

Some customers and people pumping gas told authorities they heard a “pop” before Olivera collapsed, but no one identified it as a gunshot, and they did not see a shooter, Bachman said.

“It’s very strange,” Bachman told TV reporters. “There’s no altercation going on and suddenly he’s shot.”

Detectives are visiting nearby businesses to check if any security cameras have images of the shooter. It’s possible Olivera was shot from across the street, Bachman said.

Oliveras had four children, CBSLA.com reported.
