Two 16-year-old boys killed in broadsided Prius are identified

The two 16-year-old boys killed Monday night when they drove through a stop in Lancaster and were broadsided by a tractor-trailer have been identified, authorities said.
The boys were identified as Palmdale resident Michael Burgess and Oklahoma native Christopher Ricker, said Ed Winter, Los Angeles County coroner’s spokesman.
The crash occurred about 6:45 p.m. at 60th Street West and State Route 138 when Ricker, heading north on 60th, failed to stop as he crossed into the intersection with the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A big rig traveling west on the highway slammed into the passenger side of the 2002 Toyota Prius. Burgess, who was a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ricker succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. His parents live in nearby Rosamond, Winter said.
The driver of the big rig, a 55-year-old man from Littlerock, was uninjured and was not arrested.
The CHP investigation into the crash was continuing.
