Two men from the Inland Empire face charges of pimping and pandering two women after being arrested by undercover police in Santa Ana, prosecutors said.
Raphael Jared Scally and Darryl Da Keis Gillard, both 27, have each been charged with two felony counts of pimping and two felony counts of pandering, according to a statement from the Orange County district attorney’s office.
Prosecutors said the two men could face enhanced sentencing, if convicted, because both were on bail in another felony case -- a 2010 residential burglary case -- when the recent crime occurred. The maximum penalty is nine years and four months in state prison.
Prosecutors said Gillard, a Hemet resident, is out on bail, and his arraignment has not yet been scheduled. Scally, of Hesperia, was set to be arraigned Monday; prosecutors said they would request $250,000 in bail.
About 4 a.m. Friday, prosecutors said, Santa Ana police saw the men driving around Harbor Boulevard, which law enforcement officers know to be a high-trafficked area for prostitution.
Gillard drove, another man was in the front passenger seat, and Scally rode in the back with the two women -- ages 18 and 19 -- who were allegedly Scally’s prostitutes, prosecutors said.
Police said they stopped them after they saw one of the women get into another vehicle, which was also stopped.
Prosecutors said Scally is was in possession of evidence of pimping one of the women at the time of the arrest. Prosecutors also said he had set a quota of $300 for at least one of the women the day he was arrested.
