An argument between two men in Whittier on Thursday night became deadly when one of them pulled out a gun and shot the other in the chest, police said.
Officers responded to calls of shots fired just before 10 p.m. in the 6200 block of Pickering Avenue near the intersection with Broadway, said Whittier police Officer Brad White.
Before officers arrived, the gunman fled, and a passerby brought the 19-year-old shooting victim to a hospital, White said. When police arrived, witnesses told them of the argument and shooting, White said.
It was “undetermined” if the shooting was gang-related, White said.
The identity of the victim, who died at the hospital, was not immediately released. The investigation remained ongoing.
