A man walking on railroad tracks in Anaheim was killed late New Year’s Eve after being struck by a freight train, authorities said.
The man was on the eastbound tracks near Orangethorpe Avenue and Imperial Highway, said Anaheim Police Sgt. Chris Pena. The man was struck by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway train, Pena said.
Pena said the conductor saw the man on the tracks but was unable to stop in time. Police were called to the scene shortly before 11 p.m.
“The reason why he was on the tracks is unclear,” Pena said.
Authorities pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Orange County coroner’s officials are trying to determine the man’s identity.
