A pedestrian who may have stumbled into traffic early Friday morning was killed in a hit-and-run in Hollywood, police said.
Someone driving eastbound on Santa Monica Boulevard near Highland Avenue struck the pedestrian about 3:10 a.m. and fled the scene, said Daniel Veliz of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Veliz said the pedestrian was standing on the sidewalk with a group of people near a bus stop and “according to some witnesses, possibly stumbled back onto the roadway and was struck by the vehicle.”
Because a large crowd had gathered, Veliz said it was difficult for paramedics to treat the pedestrian on the scene. The pedestrian was pronounced dead in the ambulance, Veliz said.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office said the person’s identity has not yet been released.
Veliz said the investigation is ongoing.
