Gas leak in Newbury Park triggers half-mile-wide evacuation

The Ventura County Fire Department ordered an evacuation of a half-mile area in Newbury Park on Wednesday because of a major gas leak.
Authorities initially asked that the 101 Freeway be closed between Ventu Park and Lynn roads but lifted the request about half an hour later.
Ten people have been evacuated to the La Quinta Inn in Newbury Park, officials said. Everyone else has been ordered to remain in doors.
Oxnard and Ventura County fire department hazmat teams were at the scene.
A number of dental, surgical and other medical offices surround the area where the leak was reported.
The evacuation was ordered between Newbury and Haigh roads.
