Man shot and killed in confrontation with deputies in East L.A.

Homicide detectives Tuesday were investigating a deputy-involved shooting that left a man dead in East Los Angeles.
Deputies responded early Tuesday to a report of a woman screaming in the City Terrace neighborhood. They were flagged down by a witness who reported seeing a man with a gun, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
“While searching the area for the suspect, the deputies heard a gunshot,” department authorities said in a statement.
The deputies tried to detain a suspect, who allegedly began fighting, and at least one deputy opened fire, according to authorities.
The suspect ran a short distance and collapsed near East Almanza Lane and Miller Avenue.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Authorities said a handgun was recovered from the scene. No deputies were injured.
At least 83 homicides have been reported in East Los Angeles since January 2007, according to The Times Homicide Report database.
