A low pressure system will continue to bring cooler-than-normal temperatures and coastal fog to Southern California.

The National Weather Service said the weather pattern is expected to continue through the weekend.

Temperatures in some parts of the region have been 5 to 10 degrees below normal in the heart of summer. In downtown L.A. on Thursday, the 81-degree high was three degrees below normal.

Temperatures at the beaches will remain in the 70s while the valleys will reach the 80s.

A tropical rainstorm that caused deadly floods and destructive mudslides in the San Gabriel Mountains on Sunday was the kind of weather event seen only once about every 500 years.
