Armed robbers hit Citibank branches in Costa Mesa, Glendale

Armed bandits wearing disguises robbed Citibank branches in Costa Mesa and Glendale on Tuesday, authorities said.
In the Costa Mesa robbery, a man wearing a wig and glasses pulled out a handgun at about 9 a.m., pointed it at a teller and demanded that she fill a bag with money, police said in a news release. He then forced a second teller to do the same.
It was the second robbery at the Citibank location in the 2700 block of Harbor Boulevard in less than a month, the Daily Pilot reported.
The robber then demanded that workers open the bank’s vault and produce large bills, according to a bank employee who asked not to be named, citing uncertainty about Citibank’s policy.
When the workers said they didn’t have access to the vault, “that’s when [the robber] got frustrated and annoyed and left the scene,” the employee said.
In Glendale, two masked men got away with an undisclosed amount of cash Tuesday after holding up a Citibank at gunpoint, police told the Glendale News-Press.
At 9:36 a.m., the gun-wielding men, who wore ski masks and hooded sweat shirts, entered the bank in the 400 block of North Central Avenue and made off with cash from the bank tellers, according to Glendale police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.
The men were last seen exiting the bank and entered a gold or champagne-colored new Nissan Versa.
