A Merced County woman accused of killing a 1-year-old she was baby-sitting in 2011 has pleaded not guilty to felony child abuse charges.
Maria De Los Angeles Sixtos, 48, of Livingston, allegedly threw the 1-year-old boy she was baby-sitting against a couch in 2011.
She faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted in connection with the child’s death, according to the Merced Sun-Star. She entered her plea Monday.
The boy died more than two years ago, but Sixtos was not arrested until last month. The investigation was stalled because the pathologist on the case left the county.
Authorities said Sixtos told police she became frustrated with the boy because he kept following her into the kitchen instead of staying in the living room, the Sun-Star reported.
The child’s name has not been released.
Sixtos is scheduled to return to court Oct. 29. Bail is set at $585,000.
