Events: Mozza alums at Santa Anita Park, tapas pop-up, ‘India & Pakistan’ lecture

The Belmont Stakes horse race is Saturday, with California Chrome trying to win the prestigious Triple Crown, and the Chandelier Room at Santa Anita Park will be hosting a viewing party for local residents. The Chandelier Room’s consulting chef Christian Page, along with Osteria Mozza alums Christopher Feldmeier and David Rosoff, will prepare a special menu for the event, complete with wine pairings and cocktails. Cesar Bermudez, executive pastry chef of Hans Rockenwagner’s Los Angeles restaurants, will be bringing Barcelona to L.A. starting this weekend at La Sal, a pop-up tapas shop at 3 Square Café in Venice. The tapas will be available from 6 to 11 p.m. each Wednesday through Saturday all summer, starting this Friday. The menu at La Sal will involve utilizing California ingredients with dishes that Bermudez enjoyed in Spain. On Saturday, June 14, the Culinary Historians of Southern California will present Prem Souri Kishore and Farhana Sahibzada, lecturing on “India & Pakistan: Divided by Borders, United by Taste.” The lecture will be held in the Mark Taper Auditorium at the Central Library downtown at 10:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public. The speakers will discuss the cuisines of India and Pakistan and some of the historical events that shaped them. Themed refreshments will be provided and no reservations are necessary.
