HBO renews medical comedy ‘Getting On’ for second season

HBO is giving a life extension to its medical comedy “Getting On,” announcing Tuesday that it has renewed the off-kilter dark comedy for a second season.
“Getting On,” from Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer (“Big Love”), is an adaptation from a BBC series of the same name and features a cast of female comedy vets such as Laurie Metcalf (“Roseanne”), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy,” “Mad TV”) and Niecy Nash (“Reno 911!”) as staffers working in the female geriatric wing of a hospital facility who care for aging, sometimes wacky, patients.
The half-hour premiered last November to soft ratings, but was well-received with critics. Times TV critic Mary McNamara said of the show: “You will laugh and you will wince, and you will see yourself and those you love, whether you care to admit it or not.”

The news comes just a few weeks after the network opted not to move forward with more seasons of “Family Tree” and “Hello Ladies.”
The second season will consist of six episodes. No word yet on when the second season will likely hit the air.
