‘Breaking Bad’ gets ice skating tribute: ‘Breaking Ice’

Not quite ready to say goodbye to “Breaking Bad?” Neither is the show’s assistant editor, Sharidan Williams-Sotelo. And to express her love of the dearly departed series, she has shot a short video featuring an ice skating tribute to the AMC series titled “Breaking Ice.”

The video, which runs just over six minutes, features such segments as “Elegy for Jane” (Jesse Pinkman’s girlfriend whom Walter White allowed to die in the show’s second season), “Whitman’s Men” (named after the favorite poet of Gale Boetticher, Walt’s protege) and “Ionic Bonds,” featuring Walt, Jesse and Gale look-alikes skating in yellow haz-mat suits.

Ice skating legend Richard Dwyer plays Saul Goodman, the shady lawyer played by Bob Odenkirk in the series.

It was shot early last year in a Southern California ice skating rink, but has only now emerged. Don’t worry about spoilers, since it was shot before Vince Gilligan had even written the series finale.

Williams-Sotelo got a bit of recognition earlier this year for cutting the ominous promo for “Breaking Bad’s” finale run of episode, which featured star Bryan Cranston reading Percy Bysshe Shelley’s poem “Ozymandias” over shots of the New Mexico desert. While this tribute is considerably lighter, it still gets under the skin in the same way.
