Miss Golden Globe: HFPA fries up some Sosie Bacon
- Share via
Continuing its tradition of selecting names that sound a little like made-up nouns from Middle-earth (hi, Rainey Qualley!), the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. has named Sosie Bacon as Miss Golden Globe for its ceremony on Jan 12.
Bacon is the daughter of Hollywood royalty twice over: the 21-year-old is the second and youngest child of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. She has done acting sporadically, appearing on several episodes of Sedgwick’s “The Closer.” Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are hosting the 2014 ceremony, ensuring there will be no jokes whatsoever about Bacon or her parents.
Because he could, HFPA President Theo Kingma joked in the announcement, “As we all know, she comes from a very talented family, and this gets us one degree closer to Kevin Bacon.”
The Golden Globes chooses celebrities in their late teens or early 20s for the Miss or Mister Golden Globes role, which is ceremonial. Sam Michael Fox (of Michael J. and Tracy Pollan fame) and Francesca Eastwood (of Dirty Harry and Frances Fisher renown) held the role in the last two years. If you have any doubt that the HFPA makes the decision based on the oddity of someone’s name, among its past honorees are Eva Six, Rumer Willis and the aforesaid Rainey Qualley.
