Michael Douglas comedy ‘Last Vegas’ wins ratings appeal

The makers of “Last Vegas,” a “Hangover”-style comedy for the senior set, won an appeal of the film’s R rating Thursday, a rare case of the Motion Picture Assn. of America overturning a ruling.
The CBS Films movie, which stars Michael Douglas as a lifelong bachelor who takes a trip to Las Vegas with friends on the eve of his wedding, will now be rated PG-13 for “brief sexual content and language.”
Directed by Jon Turteltaub from a script by Adam Brooks and Dan Fogelman, “Last Vegas” also stars Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline.
The trailer for “Last Vegas” finds its humor in the indignities of aging, as Freeman’s character contemplates how to indulge in the pleasures of Sin City when, “I can’t smoke, drink, eat salt or stay out past 9.”
Representatives for the MPAA and CBS Films declined to comment on the appeal -- including whether scenes had been cut.
“Last Vegas” arrives in theaters Nov. 1.
