SAG Awards 2014: Holly Hunter is all praise for Jane Campion

The very petite Holly Hunter walked the red carpet at the SAG Awards on Saturday in support of the Jane Campion-directed miniseries, “Top of the Lake.”
Hunter is vying against her “Lake” costar, Elisabeth Moss, for the best performance by an actress in a television movie or miniseries.
The gritty drama was filmed for Sundance in New Zealand, and when Campion first called Hunter about playing the role of feminist seer G.J., Hunter was at first unsure.

“Jane, why? Why do you want me to do this?” she said.
When the answer came that she simply had to, Hunter said yes. You don’t say no to a director like Campion, she said.
“I did it because it’s Jane,” she said. “Jane has impeccable instincts and is a true artist, and I haven’t worked with that many of them, so I trust her completely.”

That “Top of the Lake” has been so well received only makes sense to Hunter.
“It’s been energizing to Jane and the form of the miniseries, which really has been revitalized by the artistic success of shows like this,” she said.
