Two early James Stewart films out on DVD

Movie audiences got their first glimpse at James Stewart in the 1935 MGM crime-drama “The Murder Man,” which also marked Spencer Tracy’s first film for the studio after toiling for a few years at Fox. Tracy plays an ambitious New York newspaper reporter, and the lanky and endearing young Stewart is sixth billed as a reporter with the incongruous name of Shorty. Within a year, Stewart got his first starring role in the 1936 B romantic drama “Speed” as a proficient test driver and inventor. Warner Archive has released both films on DVD.
