BMW sets lower prices for its R 1200 GS enduro

Eager to increase its dominant position in the enduro market for large dual-purpose motorcycles, BMW has announced a series of lower prices for its new liquid-cooled R 1200 GS.
The base model of the flat twin enduro, expected to hit retailers in March, will have a sticker price of $15,800.
That version comes with some new features, such as an onboard computer and adjustable rider’s seat, adjustable passenger seat, adjustable windshield and standard antilock brakes.
The standard version, priced at $16,000, also includes heated grips, cruise control and saddle bag mounts.
The Premium Package, at $17,990, includes all that plus a touring package with an even smarter onboard computer and GPS. The Premium Plus Package, at $18,870, adds a selection of riding modes.
BMW says the bike will be offered in Fire Blue, Racing Red, Thunder Gray Metallic and Alpine White.
The travel enduro has been a money-maker for BMW. In its last year of production as an air-cooled bike, the R 1200 GS was BMW’s most successful model, selling more than 17,000 units last year. (The R 1200 GS Adventure sold an additional 10,000.)
How big is the price break on the 2013 version? Last year’s base model was priced at $16,150.
