Bell councilman: In the Oct. 13 Section A, a profile of Lorenzo Velez, the only Bell City Council member not charged with a crime, described Bell as “a city dominated by blue-color Mexican immigrants like himself.” It should have said “blue-collar.”
Helicopter accident: A brief news item in the Oct. 13 LATExtra section about a student pilot who sustained minor injuries when his helicopter rolled over at Long Beach Airport described the craft as a two-seat Robinson R44. That model is a four-seater.
Baseball playoffs: In the Oct. 12 Sports section, an article analyzing the potential problems of a five-day layoff for the Philadelphia Phillies as they head into the National League championship series against the San Francisco Giants said the Detroit Tigers in 2006 rolled through the American League playoffs unbeaten. The Tigers lost Game 1 of the AL division series to the Yankees before winning the next three games and then sweeping the Oakland A’s in the ALCS.
