Wall Street ends higher with resources stocks

NEW YORK -- U.S. stocks closed higher on Friday, extending their rally amid gains in the resources sector after data in China showed a pick-up in manufacturing activity.
Based on the latest available data, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 41.63 points, or 0.39%, to end unofficially at 10,829.68. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index gained 5.04 points, or 0.44%, to finish unofficially at 1,146.24. The Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 2.13 points, or 0.09%, to close unofficially at 2,370.75.
For the week, the Dow ended down 0.3%, while the S&P 500 slipped 0.2% and the Nasdaq declined 0.4%.
