‘Up’
Pete Docter
Following wins in this category for “Wall-E” last year and “Ratatouille” in 2008, Pixar scored its third consecutive Oscar for “Up,” a colorful fantasy adventure about a widowed curmudgeon (voiced by Ed Asner) and a young Wilderness Explorer (Jordan Nagai) who embark on an airborne voyage to South America with the help of 20,622 helium balloons.
“Boy, never did I dream that making a flip book out of my fifth-grade math book would lead to this,” said director and co-screenwriter Pete Docter, who accepted the award. “Thanks so much to Disney and Pixar Animation for believing in this oddball movie.”
The filmmaker also thanked his family, including his children and “my amazing wife, Amanda -- you guys are my greatest adventure.”
Docter, who was also nominated for an original screenplay award for “Up,” is a longtime Pixar filmmaker who has received four previous Oscar nominations, including ones for “Wall-E” and “Toy Story.”
