An 11-year-old boy who police say fatally shot his father has been charged with first-degree murder.
Police say the boy shot 42-year-old Bryon Hilburn on Aug. 27 because he was being punished, then flagged down officers outside his Belen home.
The boy, who was 10 at the time, remains in his mother’s custody. His name is being withheld because of his age.
He is too young to be tried as an adult.
