One of two people aboard a military jet died Thursday after crashing on a training mission north of Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert, authorities said.
A Kern County fire official told the Associated Press that one body was picked up by the coroner’s office and the other crew member was airlifted to a hospital with undisclosed injuries. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information.
The Air Force said the T-38 Talon went down at 1:15 p.m. nine miles north of the base.
Base officials have not released the cause of the crash or the crew members’ names or the survivor’s condition.
