BUSINESS BRIEFING / COURTS

Times Staff and Wire Reports

Microsoft Corp. canceled a hearing next month to respond to European Union charges that it illegally tied its Internet browser to the Windows operating system.

Microsoft said in a blog posting that it no longer wanted to present its defense to the European Commission at the June 3 to 5 hearing because senior EU officials would be attending another event on the same dates. The commission, the EU’s antitrust authority, rejected Microsoft’s request to change the hearing dates.
