CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / LOS ANGELES COUNTY
The temporary employment agency that placed a convicted rapist in the X-ray department of one of Los Angeles County’s largest clinics said the decision followed an assurance by the county that the technologist had ended his previous county service in good standing.
In a letter sent to county officials and The Times, Woodland Hills-based Mediscan Staffing Services said it conducted an employment check with the county before hiring Gariner Beasley as a temporary employee and placing him at the Edward R. Roybal Comprehensive Health Center in Boyle Heights.
The county told Mediscan, according to the letter, that Beasley left his job last year at the Martin Luther King Jr. outpatient clinic in Willowbrook in good standing and was eligible to be rehired. In fact, he had been fired after officials determined that his rape convictions conflicted with his job.
Department of Health Services Interim Director John Schunhoff declined to comment on Mediscan’s letter.
