Suit says Denny’s is no ‘landmark’

From Times Wire Reports

The owners of a shuttered Denny’s Corp. restaurant in Seattle have sued the city in a bid to reverse what it describes as the “sentimental and capricious” decision to declare it a landmark, which the company says wipes out most of the property’s $15.5-million value.

The Benaroya Co. planned to demolish the 44-year-old building as part of its plans to build a 261-unit apartment and retail complex.

The building in the Ballard district on the city’s northwest side features a pagoda-style arching roof.
