If you didn’t go to Sundance and don’t get HBO, you haven’t had a chance to see one of the best documentaries of the year as well as a likely Oscar nominee, Marina Zenovich’s “Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired.” Starting Friday, however, it will be playing for a week at the Sunset 5 in West Hollywood. This compelling, smartly told film takes the seemingly familiar story of the circumstances surrounding Polanski’s fleeing the country after pleading guilty to having sex with a minor and tells it with such intelligence, dispassion and detail that it’s like we’ve never heard it before. Which is exactly the point.
