A review of what happened Friday and a look at what to
expect in today’s stage:
Friday’s stage: A 99-mile journey from Brioude to Aurillac, including two category-two ascents. The ride was made much harder by heavy crosswinds.
Winner: Spanish rider Luis-Leon Sanchez of Caisse d’Epargne took the stage, six seconds ahead of former yellow jersey holder Stefan Schumacher of Germany and Filippo Pozzato of Italy.
Yellow jersey: Kim Kirchen of Luxembourg retained the yellow jersey, ahead of Cadel Evans of Australia, with Schumacher third.
Quote of the day: “It’s been a savage day and that’s going to hurt a lot of people. This all accumulates, it makes the race a bit more interesting.” -- David Millar of Britain, who tried repeatedly to get away and take the yellow jersey but eventually lost time on the leaders and fell to seventh place overall.
