Former Bruin Moore is hired by Neuheisel

Former UCLA wide receiver Reggie Moore joined Bruins Coach Rick Neuheisel’s staff.

Neuheisel said Thursday that he hasn’t determined Moore’s duties.

“I haven’t put all the pieces to the puzzle together yet, but he has a lot of experience in different areas,” Neuheisel said. “One thing I do know is that he will be involved in alumni relations.”

Moore, 39, spent the last four years coaching wide receivers at North Dakota State. Neuheisel had hired him at Washington, and Moore served as a graduate assistant under the Huskies’ Keith Gilbertson in 2003 after he replaced Neuheisel.

Moore played at UCLA from 1987-90.

Bill Stewart was promoted to coach of West Virginia, losing the interim tag after a 48-28 victory over Oklahoma in Wednesday’s Fiesta Bowl.

He took over for Rich Rodriguez, who left for Michigan.

Stewart, 55, agreed to a five-year contract worth $800,000 a year, plus incentives. The base salary totals $4 million, the same amount West Virginia is seeking in a buyout of the seven-year contract, worth almost $2 million a year, that Rodriguez signed in August.

Stewart was coach at Virginia Military Institute from 1994-96, compiling an 8-25 record. He also had stints as an assistant at Salem College, North Carolina, Marshall, William & Mary, Navy, Arizona State and Air Force.

Once a candidate for the West Virginia job, Central Michigan Coach Butch Jones agreed to a two-year contract extension, keeping him under contract for the next five seasons.

Jones led the Chippewas to the Mid-American Conference championship in his first year.

Florida defensive end Derrick Harvey has told the Gators that he will forgo his senior season and make himself available for the NFL draft.

“I was told I am projected as a first-round pick,” Harvey said. “It’s time for a change.”

Former Duke coach Ted Roof was hired as a linebackers coach by Louisville, more than five weeks after he was fired by the Blue Devils.
