A man has been arrested on suspicion of slashing his dog’s throat, authorities said Friday.
Brian Cunningham, 35, was arrested on a felony charge of cruelty to animals after allegedly cutting the 13-year-old Labrador retriever/terrier mix with a knife in the backyard of a home in the 15000 block of Lucille Court, according to the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Santa Clarita Valley Station.
Deputies tried to save the animal, which they found struggling to survive in the yard. The female dog was taken to Newhall Creatures Emergency Center, but later died. Authorities said Cunningham apparently believed the dog needed to be put down.
