SHRED HEAD

Annie Clark, the mastermind behind the ragged, theatrical indie-pop band St. Vincent, knows from non sequiturs. “I’m not your mother’s favorite dog,” she sings in her lilting alto on “Now, Now” a few minutes before dissolving the song in a maze of Zappa-acolyte shredding. Such behavior would be out of place in her side gigs as hired ax-slinger for nice-guy acts Sufjan Stevens and the Polyphonic Spree, but her Ms. Havisham-meets-Kim Gordon charisma makes the eccentricity of her solo debut, “Marry Me,” inviting instead of antagonistic. Rising L.A. indie-rockers Foreign Born open. 8 p.m. Fri., the Echoplex. $13. (213) 413-8200
