From Times Wire Reports
A wildfire fanned by winds gusting up to 68 mph raced along the edge of a valley about 10 miles south of Reno, threatening homes, closing U.S. 395 for two hours and forcing the evacuation of a school. About 1,200 acres were reported burned.
More than 350 firefighters battled the blaze, which was about 10% contained as darkness fell, Reno fire spokesman Steve Frady said. The winds diminished by late evening, allowing firefighters to gain ground, he said.
The suspected cause of the fire was downed power lines.
