KABUL, AFGHANISTAN — A purported Taliban spokesman has been arrested in Helmand province, the Interior Ministry said today.
Qari Yousef Ahmadi was taken into custody with his brother Wednesday in the village of Sufiyan, the ministry said in an e-mail.
Many journalists contacted Ahmadi for Taliban comment on violence and kidnappings.
Officials said today that two foreigners from the International Committee of the Red Cross who had helped free South Korean captives last month were kidnapped after talking with militants about the release of a German hostage.
An official said the two and their two Afghan drivers were taken captive Wednesday in Wardak province.
