* at Cleveland 6, Detroit 5 (11 innings): Casey Blake homered with one out in the 11th inning to give the Indians a come-from-behind win over the Tigers, who fell 5 1/2 games behind them in the Central Division. The Indians trailed, 5-2, in the eighth inning. Jhonny Peralta homered twice for Cleveland, which rallied off Joel Zumaya.

* at New York 8, Baltimore 5: Hideki Matsui broke out of a five-for-43 slump with a go-ahead home run and Phil Hughes (4-3) won his second straight start with help from a bullpen that escaped two bases-loaded jams to help pull the Yankees within 3 1/2 games of Boston in the East. New York also increased its wild-card lead to 3 1/2 games over Detroit.

* Seattle 4, at Oakland 0: Jose Lopez hit a three-run homer and Miguel Batista (14-11) outpitched All-Star Dan Haren (14-8) to end a five-start winless stretch. Haren was trying for the fifth time to get his 15th victory. Batista (14-11) allowed five hits and walked four. He had been 0-3 since his last victory, Aug. 17 against the Chicago White Sox.

* Chicago 11, at Kansas City 3: Jermaine Dye, Danny Richar and Josh Fields homered in an 11-run fifth inning. Kansas City led, 2-0, before the outburst. White Sox right-hander Javier Vazquez (13-8) worked eight innings and struck out a season-high 13, allowing two runs and five hits without a walk. He retired 21 of his last 23 batters.

* at Minnesota 5, Texas 4: Ian Kinsler misplayed Jason Bartlett’s popup with two outs in the ninth, allowing Lew Ford to score the winning run. Joe Mauer homered for the Twins, who ended a four-game losing streak but were eliminated from playoff contention after the wild card-leading Yankees beat Baltimore.

* at Toronto 6, Boston 1: Tim Wakefield (16-11) fell to 0-1 in three starts since missing a turn because of a bad back.

* at Angels 10, Tampa Bay 7: The Angels reduced their magic number to clinch the West to five.
