Lawyer is in talks to take over Spector’s defense

A well-known Bay Area lawyer is in talks to defend Phil Spector at his retrial in the 2003 shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson.
Doron Weinberg presented himself Tuesday to Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler as Spector’s spokesman, but said he was discussing representing the 67-year-old music producer.
In September, jurors deadlocked 10 to 2 for conviction after a four-month trial in which prosecutors argued that Spector shot Clarkson when she tried to leave his Alhambra mansion.
Defense lawyers said the 40-year-old actress shot herself.
