Sheriff’s deputies traced cellphone signals to find and arrest a man suspected of leaving a suspicious package on a bus and then phoning in bomb threats.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Keith Olberger said the man started calling authorities at 9:45 a.m. Sunday to say a bomb was on a particular bus.
A bus driver found the package the suspect described and a bomb squad rushed to the scene as deputies evacuated nearby homes and businesses.
Olberger said the package was detonated and contained only papers.
The suspect continued to call in threats, and deputies used his cellphone signal to track him.
The man, who was not identified, has been booked on suspicion of making terrorist threats and false reporting of a bomb.
