Mariah Carey, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Black Eyed Peas and Nickelback each captured three nominations Tuesday for the American Music Awards.
Carey’s “The Emancipation of Mimi” was nominated for best album in the soul/rhythm & blues category, along with “The Breakthrough” by Mary J. Blige and “Unpredictable” by Jamie Foxx.
Best album nominees in the rap/hip-hop genre were the Black Eyed Peas’ “Monkey Business,” Eminem’s “Curtain Call” and T.I.’s “King.”
Nominees were chosen based on record sales. Winners will be selected by a survey of about 20,000 listeners, with the awards to be presented Nov. 21 at the Shrine Auditorium during a three-hour ABC telecast.
