Universal Music Group, the nation’s largest record company, announced the formation of a new label, Suretone Records.
The new imprint is a joint venture between Universal’s Interscope Records and Jordan Schur, who headed Universal’s Geffen Records for more than six years.
It is part of a larger shuffling at Interscope, which is also expected to see Ron Fair, head of the A&M; label, become chairman of Geffen, and Polly Anthony, current Geffen co-president, take on responsibilities for Interscope’s nascent television ventures, company insiders said.
The Suretone imprint is expected to appear on new releases by established bands Weezer, the Cure, Rooney, New Found Glory, and Angels and Airwaves.
