From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A small plane crashed Monday into a sewage pond at a wastewater treatment plant, authorities said. It was not immediately clear whether anyone survived.
A witness spotted the plane going down just before 4 p.m., the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department said. Rescuers could not immediately reach the aircraft because it was submerged, officials said.
A flight log and a Japanese passport were recovered near the wreckage, said Larri Frelow of the Federal Aviation Administration.
