Chicago Gets Another Taste of the Berghoff
- Share via
Chicago’s 107-year-old Berghoff restaurant, which attracted large crowds for one last taste of sauerbraten before closing in February, quietly reopened this week as the Berghoff Cafe.
The landmark restaurant’s successor sports the same menu, the same decor and at least a few of the same staffers.
Third-generation owner Herman Berghoff, 70, announced in December that the German restaurant and neighboring bar would shut down. His daughter Carlyn decided to bring it back with traditional Berghoff dishes including Wiener schnitzel and schlachtplatte.
