Dozens of people were feared to have drowned when a bus packed with about 50 wedding guests plunged into a river in western Bangladesh, police said.
The bus was boarding a ferry when it toppled into the Chitra River in Narail district, about 70 miles west of the capital, Dhaka, local police official Mohammed Alim Mahmud said. Only 12 people, including the groom, were able to swim to shore, Mahmud said. The rest, including the bride, were feared trapped inside the sunken bus.
Private TV channel ATN Bangla reported that rescuers plucked three bodies from the river nearly five hours after the accident.
