Court Upholds City’s Higher Minimum Wage

The state Court of Appeals upheld a Santa Fe ordinance that requires the capital city’s largest employers to pay their workers at least $8.50 an hour.
The appeals court affirmed a lower court ruling that the city had the power to set a minimum wage for private employers that is higher than the $5.15 minimum mandated by the state and federal governments. The ordinance was adopted by the Santa Fe City Council in 2003.
