Council Backs Plan to Prepare Kids for College

The City Council urged the city school board Tuesday to adopt a college preparatory curriculum for all students, saying a higher standard is justified to allow more students to seek a higher education.
The council acted at the request of school board President Jose Huizar, who has introduced a proposal to mandate that students take classes that are needed for admission to state universities.
“It is shocking that that requirement isn’t in place now,” said council President Alex Padilla.
