Fans Tired of Playing ‘Name That Team’
Dear LAA,
Please do not ever send me an e-mail where you refer to my Angels as the L.A. Angels. It’s a silly name that alienates every Angel fan I know, while ticking off the LADs just for grins.
But, what the heck, if it makes your new fan base in Arizona happy, then I guess you’ve achieved your marketing objective.
Marketing-wise, I am dumbfounded that your organization did not select a name that would encompass a region great enough to cover all of your prospects, such as the SouthWest Angels.
Anyway, until you drop the L.A. from the Angel brand, drop me as a subscriber. The Angels are my team. But I would never purchase any Angel merchandise that is branded L.A. Angels.
And that’s my last statement to you concerning the silliness involved with your the the City of the Angels Angels of Anaheim brand.
Best wishes, anyway, from Disneyheim.

I am at a loss to understand the current fuss over the name “Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.”
First, why were the folks in Anaheim not upset when the Los Angeles Rams played in Anaheim? For that matter, why doesn’t UCLA put on its basketball tickets that Pauley Pavilion is actually in Westwood, or that in football season the Bruins technically are UC Pasadena? A few years back, did it really matter that the Los Angeles Lakers and Kings played in Inglewood?
