Indians Fire Three Casino Executives

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The Cabazon Band of Mission Indians fired three top executives this week after the tribe said they had managed funds poorly.

A unanimous vote Wednesday by the tribe’s business committee ousted Mark Nichols, chief executive; Duff Wenz, chief operating officer; and Greg Cervantes, director of public affairs, said John A. James, tribal chairman.

The executives could not be reached for comment.

The tribe, which owns the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, is also being audited by the Internal Revenue Service in connection with a $145-million tax-exempt bond used to finance a new hotel and convention center.
