Outgoing Union Chief on State Education Panel

John Perez, the outgoing president of the city’s teachers union, has been appointed to the California Postsecondary Education Commission.
Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez (D-Los Angeles) announced Perez’s appointment Friday. Perez, 58, will serve a six-year term that begins immediately. He will earn $100 for each day the 17-member panel is in session.
As a member of the commission, Perez will advise the governor and the Legislature on higher-education policy and fiscal issues.
